In Memoriam

The record number of suicides among service members is at an all-time high. We won’t bother posting the statistics here, one is one too many. This identifies a deep divide somewhere along the chain of communication. This break is obviously effecting too many to be a coincidence. In the military we are to a great degree all likeminded; this comes naturally considering we all matured in a highly interconnected community. This serves as our strength but also can be our weakness primarily due to a domino effect. When one falls we are taught to take care of each other, we are all first responders. Most often with suicide the only thing anyone can do is idly reflect on potential causes that are lost oft in a sea of anonymity. For every one that chooses take one’s own life, an entire family suffers, and yet we all share in that loss. On this Memorial Day we reflect on the fact that for many, war is a brief period of time in one’s life, yet for some the real battle begins upon their return.
